Rashtriya Ekta Divas Celebrations

The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, . VP Singh Badnore flagged off the run for unity at Sukhna Lake to mark the celebrations of Rashtriya Ekta Divas today.
The Government of India observes Rashtriya Ekta Divas across the country to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of the nation by celebrating it as a ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ or National Unity Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Series of events were done by the allied departments of Chandigarh Administration to highlight the role of Iron Man, Sardar Patel at the critical juncture in India’s history. To pay tribute and gratitude to the strong personality of Indian freedom struggle, and to educate the generation about the contribution of father of India’s political integration, the “Run for Unity” in Chandigarh began with a march past by the Police Department.
It was followed by a pledge that was administered by the UT Administrator. The People in large numbers from all walks of life i.e. students, police officials, officers from Administration took part in the Run for Unity at Sukhna Lake.
Adding to the celebration, the Adviser to the Administrator . Manoj Parida unveiled the portrait of Sardar Vallabbhai Patel at UT Secretariat. The portrait was painted by the student of Government College of Arts, Chandigarh, Sahil Kapil who has represented for skill excellence globally in painting and decorating at, “World Skills International Competition 2019” in Kazan, Russia.
Education Department also played a significant role in involving the students as part of this celebration. Various programs like essay writing, slogan writing, painting, skits were organized at different schools. A biography of Sardar Vallabhbhai was also read out at both the schools and college level to educate them about his contributions.
A seminar on Rashtriya Ekta Divas was also conducted at Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42, Chandigarh. Director Higher Education, . Rakesh Kumar Popli who was the chief guest on this occasion gave away the prizes to the winners of essay writing/painting and other competitions.
